HELPING WITH THE ORGANIZATION OF A KNOWLEDGE CONTEST 10th grade

One of my friends and I helped with the organisation and technical parts of a contest. It was hosted by our teacher and due to a large number of participants, we decided to help with the online parts. We were tasked with organising the Whatsapp group, admitting and regulating people on Zoom and general technical control. Overall, it was a nice experience to interact with other people to come together for a huge event especially during quarantine when we don't have as many opportunities.

I chose to join this event to see how to organize an event and the pros and cons of online contests. It was a bonus to be able to help answer so many questions and also help our teacher in the parts where it wasn't possible to do alone.

LITERATURE PROJECT ON A BOOK I READ 10th grade

Link of the project: I wanted to discover new books to read so I asked my literature teacher for guidance on some books that might challenge my perspective. She recommended quite a few books and after reading all of them I decided on analyzing one that intrigued me the most. The reason it was so interesting to me was that it was written in a way where the left pages were from a man's diary and the right pages were from a woman's diary. They would both spend the day together but they would describe it in such different or sometimes even completely opposite ways. It was also striking because of how well it portrayed emotions and especially loneliness. I would say it changed my perspective quite a lot in a sense that I became more aware that everyone has complex inner lives that might even cause a change in perspective. I have always been fond of reading and talking about the books I've read, and it was a nice change to write about it for once.

The email I received from my teacher:

Brief summary: She thanked me for reminding her of a book that was very dear to her and congratulated me on my analysis. She also mentioned that when she first read the book she had a change in perspective just like I did. After that she wanted to know if I do this sort of thing for every book I read, and wanted to have a meeting with me about it.

GETEM READING BOOKS FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN 10th grade

Why I chose to participate: I always loved using my voice as can be seen from my middle school years of choir. During eighth grade, thanks to one of my teachers, I had the chance to participate in a project where I voiced a very short book for the same purpose. I really enjoyed contributing to someone's life, especially by reading books because I love reading and cannot imagine my life without it. After that, I didn't have many opportunities to put my new knowledge of using the program Audacity and voicing to use. When I learned that a group of friends decided on making this project with the collaboration of Boğaziçi University, I immediately joined in as I loved doing it the first time around.

Goal: The goal is simple yet extremely important. Both visually impaired children and adults deserve to experience the world without boundaries. As people who can provide them with an amazing service like audiobooks with just a small amount of our time, I believe we should do our best to make this world a more accessible place for everyone. My goal is to always live in a world where people can have access to simple things like books no matter their background, and I chose to work on this project for this purpose.

What we did: Right now, we learned to use voice recording with Audacity and also practised reading out loud. Currently, I am planning on focusing on reading primarily children's books and I have already started working on one.
