COURSERA COURSE ON CHEMISTRY 10th grade

 COURSERA COURSE ON CHEMISTRY

While trying to decide what I want to study at university, I started looking into Coursera courses. I started out with chemistry, which I thought was pretty interesting and insightful. I finished the course 3 weeks ahead of time.

International Mathematics Kangaroo Competition 9th grade

INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS KANGAROO COMPETITION

This time around, the questions were higher level, so I didn't pass the first stage but it was a nice way to see where I'm at. I've attended this competition because I was in the math club and I wanted to know if the question types I learned would correspond with the ones here.

ENKA MATH COMPETITION 8th grade

 ENKA MATH COMPETITION

I joined the ENKA Highschool math competition involving analytical and high-level questions. I became the 17th person and earned 300TL as a reward. The questions were challenging and they helped me prepare for the high school entrance exam.

Purple Comet Math Competition 6th grade

PURPLE COMET MATH COMPETITION

My math teacher encouraged me to join this competition with other students where we competed by ourselves but our score as a group determined our final placement. It was on the computer, which made me realize how slow I typed, so I made a note to improve myself on that front. It was also a fun math competition.

SANSEV Polyphonic Choir Festival 6th grade

 SANSEV POLYPHONIC CHOIR FESTIVAL

I have always liked music, but I never thought I was talented at singing. After starting music lessons in 6th grade, my teacher realized my potential and I became a part of the chorus. I made some of my fondest memories thanks to that. In this festival, we were one of the youngest choruses and we sang a song that our teacher wrote together with us. There was no winning or losing but our performance was one of the most applauded ones. The excitement of being on stage with so many people and singing in harmony after all those weekly preparations was one of the best feelings. Pulling off singing in a polyphonic chorus taught me to depend on others and be dependable at the same time. I learned to control my voice and made friends who I still talk to this day.

English Speaking Competition 5th grade

English Speaking Competition

In 5th grade, I went on a class trip to Capadoccia. After the class trip, there was a speaking competition in which someone from all classed spoke about their experiences. At first, I thought I wouldn't get chosen, so I just wrote about it because I liked writing. Then, after I was chosen for the competition, I started to seriously prepare for it. I presented in multiple settings in front of different people to get criticism on what might go better. It was my first time speaking in front of such a huge crowd, so I was nervous. Through that competition, I learned to get criticism and select between which might be helpful and which isn't. The biggest improvement it had on me was definitely being able to experience speaking before a huge crowd, which I'm still working on improving since it isn't one of my strongest points. Despite it being nerve-wracking, I ended up winning first place. It made me believe in my ability to speak in a language I had just started learning that year and also boosted my confidence for future public speaking events.
