CHEMISTRY RESEARCH ABOUT CLONING 10th grade

CHEMISTRY RESEARCH ABOUT CLONING

The video: With the help of my teacher I read an article about cloning. I always loved reading science magazines since my childhood, I always remember getting science books as birthday gifts. That's why I certainly could not miss an opportunity to read about such an interesting subject. After reading and thinking about the article, I thought of a few questions and answered them to the best of my abilities. The link is to the video I recorded. Here's also the link to the script.

KOC AI CAMP 10th grade

 KOC AI CAMP

Pursuing my interest in coding, I proceeded to join this camp organized by the Koc AI club. I was able to test out my coding skills with various exercises. I also learned how to do a starting AI and made a project which I think might help both colorblind and blind people in picking colors. As of now, my project can only identify simple colors but in the future, I hope to make it into an app that helps identify colors for those who need it.

KHAS Engineering and Music Camp 10th grade

KHAS Engineering and Music Camp

As it is clear from all the activities I've done, I was always interested in music. However, recently I've discovered my passion for coding after getting lessons from a family friend. When I saw an opportunity for a webinar that combined my lifelong interest with a new one I gladly joined. I didn't regret it obviously and İt opened up a whole new world of career options that might allow me to integrate my interests.

Coursera: Introduction to Python Programming 10th grade

 Coursera: Introduction to Python Programming

After briefly starting to code with a family friend, I took it upon myself to seriously advance in that field MAking use of the advantages of online learning, I quickly finished a coding course to get started. I am planning on continuing my education in the coding field and hopefully, one day accomplish making life easier with it. I really want to teach young children how to code too, since I've already stated in my singing page that I love sharing my passion with others. Coding is like learning a new language that explains many things you didn't realize up until now, which has been an exciting adventure.

Cambridge Exam 7th grade

CAMBRIDGE EXAM

An exam I entered to see where my level was at the time, allowing me to see which areas I could improve. The moment I came across the language, I knew I would love it. When I was in 5th grade I earned the student of the month award from the English department and I never stopped trying to learn languages after that. Currently, I am learning French as an elective course and although I am not very good at it I try to pick up Japanese by myself. I hope to prove my level in my third and fourth languages as well as show my improvement in my second language.

Body Percussion Festival 7th grade

BODY PERCUSSION FESTIVAL

Learning body percussion was hard with all the sounds and steps you have to memorize. It helped me realize that there are a lot of ways to make music and improved my coordination. My rhythm was never that good but thanks to this festival I was able to pair my music with movement for once.

Creative Writing Festival 7th grade

DOGA SCHOOLS CREATIVE WRITING FESTIVAL

Up until this point, I had never stayed somewhere alone without someone from my family. This festival made me open up and talk to people while also teaching me things about sharing a room with a friend. It was out of my comfort zone, but I didn't regret it as it was eye-opening to get advice from writers about writing. I always knew I loved writing, but never considered actually seriously try my hand at it. I learned a lot about writing and life at that festival and I believe it influenced the way I write tremendously.

Young Musicians Festival 7th grade

YOUNG MUSICIANS FESTIVAL

I used to play the guitar for two years. The place I learned to play the guitar had other people learning with me, so we worked on a few songs together to perform at this festival. It was nice to play in front of a crowd for a change. Playing instruments is an amazing experience with just being able to share music with people.

Solo Song Performance 7th grade

SOLO PERFORMANCE AT SCHOOL

I performed a solo song for everyone in the school. It was a big step for me to get past my fear of sounding horrible and singing. I chose the song because I felt comfortable with it, and I really loved being able to share my passion with everyone. After that point, I decided that I would like to continue sharing whatever I'm interested in for the rest of my life. Whether that be a song, a piece of writing, or something scientific, I realized that the thing I like doing the most is discovering new things and sharing them.

Letter from the assistant headmaster 9th grade

LETTER FROM THE ASSISTANT HEADMASTER

Even during the pandemic, I didn't give up on my work ethic and got nine excellence awards for my efforts on varying subjects. Thanks to that achievement the department head wrote me a letter of appreciation.

MFL Department award 9th grade

MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT AWARD

I always loved learning foreign languages and that's why when I got the opportunity to finally learn another one besides English, I took it. I worked hard throughout the pandemic to make the best writing and video projects I can and as a result, I would say that my French has improved exponentially. I am grateful that I was chosen to be given this award as it is from a field I dedicate myself to.

Literature project 9th grade

LITERATURE PROJECT

The link to the full project: I took on this project because I've always loved writing and reading. The first time I discovered that was when I was in middle school. Our teacher had asked to describe autumn and when I read it to the class everyone was so impressed. That's when I decided that I would continue along with literature as long as I can. When I saw that I could take a yearly project in literature I obviously jumped at the opportunity. Firstly, my teacher recommended to me some poets who were not very known. After looking through their poems, I found a poet I deeply resonated with. I always loved literature, especially poetry. I wrote a detailed analysis of 2 of her poems and talked about how they affected me. Her poems had a whimsical, beautiful tone to them. As an extra addition to the project, I asked my teacher if I could write my own poems inspired by that poet. I wrote two poems closely related to hers in style and theme, and I believe thanks to this project, my poetry writing has improved and took a new, more abstract direction. I write in the school newspaper, and I feel like I became brave enough to try this new style of poetry.

Poem 1:

-Annem sessiz çığlığımı duyan tek kişi

Görünmeyen yaralarımın tek merhemi

Bin yıl hiçbir şeyi olmasa annemin

Yine de esirgemez kendini

-Annem kaldırımın arasından çıkan papatya

Köklendiği yeri daima koruyan beyaz

Gün geçtikçe ezilse de benliği

Biliyorum bırakıp gitmeyecek

Hayat verdiği o yeri

Translation:

-My mom is the only one who hears my silent scream

To my wounds, she is the only healing cream

Even if she didn't have a thing for a thousand years

She still wouldn't hold herself back

-My mom is the daisy blooming from the sidewalk

The whiteness protecting the place she sprung

Even if her sense of self is walked on each day

I know she won't go away

From the place she gave life to

Poem 2:

Mutluluk apartman boşluğunda kayıp

Ruhu eskiyor sokaktaki yalnız kemancının

Bir kişi bile duymadı şarkısını

Kalplerine sığdıramadılar notalarını

Bu kadar sığ artık göller

Ayak parmaklarım bile ıslanmıyor

Usul usul yağan yağmur da olmasa

Yaşadığımı dahi bilmeyeceğim

Nerede o turuncu çocuk sesi

Evleri dolduran pembe kahkahalar

Rüzgârın yeşilliğini ne zaman kaybettik

Donuk griliğimize

Translation:

Happiness is lost in an apartment hall

The soul of the lonely violinist in the street is getting old

Not one person heard his song

Their hearts couldn't take his notes

Lakes are so shallow now that

Not even the tips of my toes are getting wet

If it weren't for the slight rain

I wouldn't even know I am alive

Where is the orange sound of children

Pink laughter filling homes

When did we lose the green of the wind

To our dull gray

Not only that but also my teacher wrote me an email saying how much she enjoyed reading my analyses and the poems I wrote. It was an honor to be complimented on a work I diligently worked on, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.

Translation:

My dear Elif, we had the chance to speak with you about your project but I wanted to write to you as well. This is a very high-level project for 9th grade. Not only did you manage to analyze the language and technique of a poet's poems who relies on deep imagery but it is apparent that you also felt the emotions of the poems too. That may be the highest point one can reach in analyzing poetry. You understood and felt what the poet was trying to convey, what more can there be? You also added your own poems, there is nothing more to be said.

You are amazing dear, you are not only a great literature student but also a great literature interpreter. I am proud of you, I wonder what you will produce until you graduate if this is what you are producing now. Your grade is obviously 100 but in my eyes, it is even more precious than that.

See you,

Enjoy your holiday.

A song I wrote on a book 9th grade

A SONG I WROTE ON A BOOK

The recording of the song: I loved the book focusing on different characters who are connected to each other in some way. The change in perspective showing how each of them was struggling with some aspect of life was really realistic. The characters felt like real people with real hardships stemming from the system and it was explored through a very diverse demographic. I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible narrative that I decided to write a quick song describing the book for the last Turkish Literature lesson before the lockdown. The thing that affected me the most about the book to the point where I wanted to express it somehow was definitely the narrative jump between each and every flawed yet likable character. The plot isn't what usually affects me but the characters, so in the end reading about all those different characters who have believable lives and struggles was an amazing experience that inspired me. After reading that novel, I started to try my hand at writing complex stories.

Lyrics:

People are connected

Same world different problems

Neither left, right nor Europe

Could escape from class conflict

Güngör claimed to be perfect

He wore down his wife and left her

He always bragged, he was a complete entrepreneur

Still couldn't stop being repulsive

Salih looked down on his family

He rejected his social class

His only friend was memorization

Who knows where he forgot his will to live

A cold wall between siblings

Children without love aren't understood

Every line is like a needle

Red balloons fly away

Class is before love

And between every fight

Under the rule of unbreakable bonds

Everyone is unable to belong

A huge poplar is falling down

That horrible system cannot go down

Beliefs dragged on for years

Still upset people today

People are connected

Same world different problems

Neither left, right nor Europe

Could escape from class conflict

DOGA SCHOOLS ANNUAL CHOIR COMPETITION 6th grade

DOGA SCHOOLS ANNUAL CHOIR COMPETITION

This was an annual competition our school chain hosted between different prefectures. Our chorus was established that year but we ended up getting second place due to having a wide selection of songs and being a polyphonous chorus. It was amazing to be there with so many people from different places with the same passion.
